A relatively new member of the WBEE family, Kyle Jackson has been enjoying his introduction to Rochester's country music fans. "We have the some of the best listeners anywhere, I tell ya," he says, "and when I get calls with requests or questions, what amazes me is the range of folks that are listenin' - from young folks to gen-xers to older folks, it's all over the board, and that's amazing! Not only that, but how many stations have listeners that'll actually bring cookies down to the station just to let us know how they love what we do? Gotta love that!"
Kyle moved to Rochester a little over six years ago, and before coming here lived at times in Florida, California, Long Island and Washington, DC, as well as Pittsburgh, PA where he did his undergraduate work at Carnegie Mellon University. Kyle is also one of a handful of people that claims to really like Rochester winters and shoveling snow. He claims this is due to the fact that he was brought up in Florida as a kid, so snow is still pretty cool stuff. He was also raised on country music when he was younger, then rejected it as soon as he became a teenager and realized he was supposed to reject whatever his folks liked, and came back to the fold about seven years ago. "There's this whole period in country that I missed in the late 80s and early 90s, but I seem to have gotten through it OK."
Some of his current favorite artists include Terri Clark ("I tell ya, I would be that woman's pool boy if she wanted me to..."), Toby Keith, Lee Ann Womack, Keith Urban, the Dixie Chicks ["Natalie Maines could stand on stage an' sing the white pages and I'd listen all night."] with new names getting added to the list all the time. "Another awesome thing about bein' at the Bee is that I get to learn about all the new folks comin' on the country scene and follow 'em as they make their way up. A definite job perk!"
